::: byron bay beaches

::: catch a wave & some rays

Byron Bay’s beaches are some of the best on the east coast of Australia. Whether you are a swimmer, surfer or just a beach lover you will find our beaches magnificent.

For a current look at Australian beaches including Byron Bay and to check out the surfing action, take a look at Coastalwatch.com.au

Read on for more information on Byron Bay Beaches, from south to north we have ...

::: broken head

At the south end of Tallow Beach and protected from southerlies by the point and Cocked Hat Rock is Broken Head. “Broken” often turns on great hollow waves for local surfers. The beautiful Broken Head Nature Reserve has rainforest gullies running down to secluded bays. There is a council caravan and camping park and a picnic area with barbecues.

:::
suffolk park

From Broken Head north towards Cape Byron is Suffolk Park Beach. This stretch of beach is mostly used by locals walking, swimming, surfing or beach surf fishing

:::
tallow beach

At the top end of this arc of beach is Cape Byron. Nestled under the Cape’s cliff is Cosy Corner which is sheltered from the northeasterly winds which are common in summer. The surf here can be sensational but is only for experienced surfers. Swimmers should beware of strong rips.

:::
wategos beach

Wategos is the first beach north of the lighthouse. It is north facing and world famous for the long rolling waves suitable for longboard riders. The view across Wategos Bay north including Julian Rocks and the peak of Mount Warning is truly inspiring.

the passThe

The Pass is a world famous surf break and magnificent beach.
The view from the lookout will take your breath away. The surf is at times perfect. Crowds are a big problem and when the surf is good the Pass is for experienced surfers only. Swimmers here should look out for surfers, dive boats and the strong sweep.

:::
clarks beach

Clarks is halfway from the Pass to Main Beach. The surf is usually quite protected and this is a favourite for young children and surf schools.

:::
main beach

More than a beach, Main Beach is Byron Bay.
Everyone who visits Byron Bay goes to Main Beach at some stage. A magnificent stretch of white sand looking out towards Julian Rocks and backed by the beautiful Nightcap Range and Mount Warning in the distance. However, it is the mix of people that really makes Main Beach.
